The story

After the separator, the woman in charge shows the children a clean tank. “We collect the oil here,” she explains. “We do not filter it. We leave it to settle for two months. Then we transfer it into another clean tank.”

“What does settling mean?” asks Ada.

“It means leaving it to rest. With time, some of the material still floating in it settles on the bottom,” the woman replies.

Leo looks at the map. “And then do you move everything, even what has settled?”

“When we transfer the oil, we separate it from the sediment. Adults do this work, using suitable equipment and taking care to keep everything clean.”

Giulio opens the notebook. “Let us write down our route carefully: separator, clean tank, two months of settling, transfer into another clean tank.”

Rumo follows the stages with a finger. Sami draws two tanks with a calendar between them. Tila reminds them that oil must be stored with care. Waiting and transferring are part of the process this company has chosen.

Let’s talk about it

What do we do with the oil after the separator?

One possible answer

We store it in a clean tank. After two months of settling, we transfer it into another clean tank. In our process, we do not filter the oil.

A little activity

Follow the route in the notebook: separator, clean tank, two months of settling, transfer into another clean tank.
