The story

There is a code beside the information about the load. The woman in charge explains that adults use signs and records to identify groups of product. Neri introduces the word ‘batch’. It is not enough for two crates to look alike: people need to know which group each belongs to. Sami suggests drawing a little olive to follow the journey in the notebook. ‘Your symbol helps us tell the story,’ says Tila. ‘The code used at work must follow the production rules.’ Rumo looks for the same link in the diagram of the tank and the bottle. Ada extends the line. The shape of the container may change. The information must not be lost.

Let’s talk about it

Why do adults use codes and records?

One possible answer

To identify groups of product and keep the link between the different stages of processing.

A little activity

Our notebook — Choose a symbol for your story and repeat it beside three stages. It is a memory game, not a certification code.
