@ A.D.O.S. INTERNATIONALThe story
Sami notices that the crates have lots of holes. ‘Will something fall out?’
‘They are openings that let air through,’ the grower explains. ‘The crates must be clean and suitable for olives.’ The fruit is arranged without crushing it in big heaps. Rumo looks for a shady place, as he has been told. Tila asks when the transport will leave. ‘Soon. We do not keep harvested olives waiting for long. They will go to the olive mill to be processed.’ Ada draws little windows in the sides of the crate.
Leo looks at the olive tree and then at the vehicle, ready to leave. The part of the journey on the branches is over. Now they need to organise the time well.
Let’s talk about it
Why do harvested olives travel in suitable, ventilated crates?
One possible answer
To let air through and limit crushing and heating. They should be taken promptly to the olive mill and processed without unnecessary waiting.
A little activity
Our notebook — Find the holes in the crate in the picture. Draw a clock beside it to remember that time matters after harvesting.
