Words and evidence

Words and evidence
A pretty sign does not prove everything.
Words need information and checks behind them.
If something is unclear,
we can ask a question.

Rumo draws a very big green sign. ‘Can I write that we have done everything well?’ Neri shows him the page of questions still waiting for answers. ‘We can say what we know. To say that a rule has been followed, we need checks and information.’ Ada rubs out a medal she had invented for the sign. She puts a magnifying glass in its place.
Sami asks who checks the work. Tila replies that it depends on the kind of check. People with specific jobs and the right knowledge carry them out.
Leo prefers to leave room for the answer. Rumo smiles. A pretty sign can invite people to read. But the sign alone does not prove how the work was done.
Let’s talk about it
Does a pretty sign prove, by itself, that everything was done well?
One possible answer
No. Words need to be supported by information and checks. When we do not know something, we can ask.
