On the way back, Ada finds the word ‘organic’ in a book.
She asks Neri what it means. ‘It is a way of growing and producing food that follows clear rules. People care for the soil and try to prevent plant problems.’ Leo imagines that doing nothing is enough. Neri shakes his head. ‘We need to observe and work carefully. When needed, products allowed under organic farming rules may be used.’ Sami thinks of the grower’s magnifying glass. ‘So there are checks too?’ ‘Yes.’
Rumo closes the book, leaving a bookmark inside. A word on a label must match rules that have been followed and checked. A pretty green picture is not enough.
Let’s talk about it
Does organic mean that products against pests can never be used?
One possible answer
No. First, people try to prevent problems. When needed, only products allowed under organic farming rules may be used.

Our notebook — Draw two caring jobs we have already seen: observing the plant and protecting the soil. An adult can help you read a real label.
