A suitable place

A suitable place
Before planting, we choose carefully.
An olive tree needs suitable light, space,
soil and climate.
The adults check that water will not stand around it.
@ A.D.O.S. INTERNATIONALThe story
The grower invites the group to look around the young plant. There is light, space and soil that was checked before planting. ‘Why not put it next to the wall?’ asks Leo. Ada draws the leafy top of the tree, which may spread out one day. ‘It will need room.’ Neri reminds them that the climate matters too. Not every tree grows well everywhere. Rumo immediately suggests another corner, but the grower shows him where water might collect. The choice needs thought beforehand. Sami adds a circle around the plant on the map. It is not a fence. It is the space the adults have planned for the tree as it grows.
Let’s talk about it
Why is the young plant’s place chosen carefully?
One possible answer
The olive tree needs suitable light, space, soil and climate. The people caring for it check these conditions before planting it.
A little activity
Our notebook — Look at the picture and find the space around the young plant. Draw how far its leafy top might spread over time.
