Two trees, two kinds of waiting

Two trees, two kinds of waiting
The young plant needs years and care.
For the harvest, we will follow the olive tree that has already grown.
Let’s watch both, without rushing them.

At the right time, the young plant is taken to a carefully chosen patch of ground. An adult prepares the spot and plants it. The children watch from the path. A little further away stands a much bigger olive tree. Ada draws a young, smiling face on it. ‘Here is our travelling companion!’ Leo looks from one tree to the other. ‘Which one will give us olives?’ Tila points to the big tree. ‘We will follow the harvest from this olive tree, which has already grown. The young plant will need years and care.’ Sami leaves room for both in the notebook. One will show them its fruit. They will follow the other’s growth, without rushing it.
Let’s talk about it
Will the young plant give us a basket of olives straight away?
One possible answer
No. A young olive tree needs time and care. In the story, the harvest will come from the tree that has already grown.
A little activity
Our notebook — Draw the two trees, one small and one big. Which one will we watch to follow the harvest?
