Volume II · Scene 24 of 30
Bread meets oil

The box protects the bottles
Every bottle has its own place.
The dividers keep them separate.
The box protects them from knocks and light during the journey.

Tila prepares suitable portions, and the group sits at the table after washing their hands. A drizzle of oil reaches the bread. Leo is quiet for a moment. He remembers the crates, the olive paste and the tank.
Ada opens the map beside her place. Sami follows the line from the olive grove to the slice. Rumo smiles: “The first question was small. It took us a long way.” Those who want to taste the food prepared by the adult do so.
The others join the story with words or drawings. Oil does not promise magic. Curiosone goes over the costs: “Growing, harvesting, extraction, checks, storage, bottle, cap, label, box and transport.”
Rumo looks at the drizzle of oil. “Now I can see the work that came before.”
It adds flavour to the meal and brings with it the work of the people the group has learned to recognise.
Let’s talk about it
What route did we follow before seeing the oil on the bread?
One possible answer
The route from the olive grove to the mill, then through checks, storage and packaging to the table.
