The story

On the agreed day, the adults put clean nets under the trees. They spread them carefully and check the work area. Tila shows the children a safe place to watch, away from tools and moving vehicles. ‘What are the nets for?’ asks Sami. ‘They catch the olives during harvesting,’ the grower replies. ‘Then we can gather them without leaving them scattered on the soil.’ Ada draws the folds in the net. Rumo brings suitable crates and puts them where he is told. Leo sits beside Tila. He does not need to be in the work area to see well. Harvesting can begin.

Let’s talk about it

Why are clean nets put under the olive trees?

One possible answer

To catch the olives taken from the branches and keep them separate from the soil during the work.
