Time at work

The olives grow little by little
The tiny olives stay on the branches and grow.
They do not become big in one day.
We return after some time:
in the photographs, we see that they are bigger.
@ A.D.O.S. INTERNATIONALThe story
The days pass even when the group is away from the olive grove. The adults keep watching the trees and caring for them. On their next visit, Sami compares two photographs of the same branch. The olives have grown.
‘My drawing does not look the same any more!’ ‘It shows how you saw them then,’ Tila reminds him. With Neri’s help, Ada writes the dates of the two visits. Leo looks at the young tree. It is still much smaller than the tree they will harvest.
Rumo understands why they need different pages. A tree does not change everything in one night. We can notice changes by coming back to look and remembering when we observed it.
Let’s talk about it
How can we notice that the olives have grown?
One possible answer
With an adult’s help, we can compare observations or photographs of the same branch made at different times.
A little activity
Our notebook — Put the two drawings of the branch in order: before and after. Ask an adult to write when each observation was made.
